Fun Christmas Facts that You May Not Know

Knoxweb

Knoxweb is really getting into the Christmas spirit, and with just three weeks to go until the most popular holiday of the year, thought it would be fun to share some little known Christmas facts.

You may be surprised to learn that Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer didn’t start out as a children’s animated television series. The star of the popular show was actually created by Montgomery Ward as a way to entice Christmas shoppers. The department store hired copywriter Robert L. May in 1939 to write the short story. His brother in law loved the story so much that he wrote a song about it, which was then recorded by Burl Ives in 1949. Rudolph’s red nose almost didn’t happen either, as red noses were a sign of alcoholism. Montgomery Ward was afraid that their little reindeer would look like a drunk.

snowman-160884_960_720

Speaking of favorite Christmas fictional characters, Frosty the Snowman was created long before the popular song was written in 1950. In fact, the jolly snowman was originally used to advertise whiskey back in 1890. The snowman was such a hit that other alcohol companies, such as Schlitz, Jack Daniel’s, Chivas, and Regal used him as well after Prohibition.

Those upside down Christmas trees that have been popping up lately are certainly not new. In fact, upside down Christmas trees were used back in the 7th century to represent the Holy Trinity. By the time the 12th century rolled around it had become a custom, especially in Europe. Fast forward to the 1950’s when department stores starting hanging Christmas trees upside down to make room for more merchandise.

The evergreen branches that are so popular today were used during the winter solstice to remind people that green plants would again grow in the spring when the Sun Gods were prevalent once again.

The Germans first introduced people to artificial Christmas trees using dyed goose feathers. The Germans were also the first to bring the trees indoors during the holidays decorating the evergreens and the artificial trees with lights and cookies.

KnoxwebMost people are used to Santa being dressed in a bright red suit. However, Santa was originally always seen in blue, green, and white. It wasn’t until Coca Cola came up with a Christmas campaign for the popular beverage in 1930, that Santa starting wearing red.
On Christmas Eve in Norway after Christmas dinner and opening presents, yes, the Norwegians open their presents on the night before Christmas, families hide every broom in the house, as Norwegians believe that mischievous spirits and witches would come out after everyone went to bed to jump on the brooms and go for a ride.

In Japan, fried Chicken is the popular meal for Christmas Day, which would explain why KFC is so busy with people even placing their fried chicken orders in advance.

The world’s largest Christmas present is the Statue of Liberty, which was given to the United States from France in 1886. Weighing in at more than 225 tons, it stands as a symbol of freedom.

This Christmas while you are shopping, decorating, wrapping presents and baking Knoxweb would like you to take a moment to remember the real reason that we celebrate Christmas and that is the birth of Christ.

Mobile Web Design for the Future 2017

mobile web design

Knoxweb’s mobile web design team has the skills and the knowledge to take your outdated website and turn it into a user-friendly mobile responsive website that will boost your Search Engine Optimization.

You would have to be living on another planet not to realize that everyone in the world is going mobile. In fact, mobile has surpassed desktop and laptop use with over 50 percent of web surfers getting their information on a mobile device. Without a mobile web design, you will lose clients and customers.

People are addicted to tablets, Smartwatches, and of course, Smartphone’s. If you are not responsive, regardless of your industry, you will not rank well on the search engines.

Be Responsive Not Unresponsive

When mobile web browsing took the lead over desktops and laptops, Knoxweb wasn’t surprised. Knoxweb has been in the web business since 1996 and has kept up with the web, which is moving faster than most experts had predicted, and with clients and customers using just one device, the Smartphone wins over the PC every time. In fact, twice as many people who depend on one device for the World Wide Web choose a Smartphone or tablet over a desktop or laptop.

Although Knoxweb has always been in the loop when it comes to mobile web design, the team is a bit baffled as to why so many businesses, both small and large, seem to be ignoring the need for a mobile web design. Even with all of the published facts and statistics, some businesses and organizations simply refuse to go with a mobile web design. In fact, the failure to go mobile could be over 60 percent.

Google’s main focus is to help people find what they are looking for on the web, and with the majority of web surfing taking place on a mobile device, businesses that are mobile responsive will be favored by Google. If your website is optimized for mobile devices, it will help your SEO.

Below are a few more reasons to talk to Knoxweb about a mobile web design

Usability

If your site is hard to navigate, users will quickly head over to the competition. Mobile responsive websites are made to adapt to the size of the screen making every page easy to read.

If you are easily accessible, your users will have a better experience and be more likely to come back. Having a mobile responsive website is the key to a positive experience for the user. Customer experience has to be number one when it comes to your online presence. Remember, traffic and positive reviews are just a couple of the things that you will be rewarded with because of great customer experience.

Speed is Everything

Waiting for a page to load is annoying and can affect your SEO. A responsive web design will give you a better ranking on the search engines as it is optimized to load fast. Google may change its algorithms regularly, but they have remained consistent when it comes to website loading speeds.

Duplicate Content Not an Issue

Separate mobile websites, can be tough to manage. If your customer has to use a different URL from your desktop URL, Google may get confused, as the content is the same, even though the URL is different.

Duplicate content can damage your ranking. A mobile web design makes it quite clear to the search engines which content is important for indexing purposes.

Social Media

Mobile responsive websites are built for social sharing, and although sharing a post or page will not directly impact your search engine ranking, it will help you build a following. A larger audience means more engagement and more traffic.

A mobile responsive website is an essential part of online marketing. Call or click and schedule an appointment with Knoxweb who can help you with a mobile web design that will help your business grow.

Website Design is Yours Outdated?

website design

Does your website design look dated? Are you still using Flash animation, even though it is useless on a mobile device? Are you ranking low, or not ranking at all, in the search engines? Do you have to pinch and squeeze the screen to read the content on your website? If you answered yes to any of those questions, it’s time to call the team from Knoxweb.

Knoxweb is the premier Knoxville web design company and can take your antiquated website design and develop a brand new online location where clients and potential customers can find what they need without having to pinch or squeeze the screen.

If you are still using the same website design from 1999, you won’t be well liked by Google, or any of the other search engines for that matter. Because your website was designed for PC use, your website will not convert to a mobile device.

You’re Still Using What?

Using Flash is a sure way to steer your users towards the competition. Flash may seem cool on a PC or laptop, but it doesn’t convert very well on a mobile device, and although Adobe has created software for mobile phone users, it doesn’t often convert and can seem awkward.

According to Knoxweb, there are a couple of more reasons to forget about using flash for your mobile responsive website design.

No Support

Flash isn’t supported by iPod, iPhone or on an Android. It can be hard to use and difficult to see on a mobile phone, even if it does support it. If mobile users aren’t able to use the functions on your website, you will lose subscribers.

Time is Money

Flash is expense and difficult to update. If you want to make simple changes, forget about the ease of use that you have with CSS3 or HTML5, which takes about a minute if that. Flash could take you hours or quite possibly days to complete.

There is a Price to Pay

If you are still set on Flash for your mobile website design, consider the cost. Because Adobe owns Flash, developers must pay $199.00 for the license fee, not to mention the cost of upgrades.

Smart Phones are Everywhere

Everyone uses a Smartphone. In fact, seniors, who are usually in the lower percentage when it comes to adopting new technology, are more connected than ever, with the more educated and affluent reporting usage rates that are similar to those under 65. If you are targeting seniors over the age of 65, four out of ten people have Smartphones. Over double what it was in 2013.

If you are in retail and still using an old web design it could hurt your business. You may have a thriving bricks and mortar clothing store in Gatlinburg, but if you listen to the statistics, online shopping is quickly emerging as the most popular way to shop. If you don’t have an online store to compliment your bricks and mortar store, your sales could diminish.

According to Knoxweb, even the early mobile web designs can cause problems. Those that are specifically dedicated to mobile use, but can still be viewed on a PC, in most cases anyway, are sometimes hard to navigate on a laptop or PC. Those old hamburger style menus may look great on a mobile phone, but could cause problems on another device. Mobile design sites that are not responsive may require heavy scrolling on a laptop or PC.

If you follow the Knoxweb Blog, you will know that a responsive mobile website design will adjust to any device. Your Pigeon Forge Restaurant mobile web design will convert from a Smartphone to a PC with straightforward information that is easy to see and navigate through when you convert your old website design.

Still not convinced that your old website isn’t doing its job? Do a Google search on your business and see where you land. If users can’t find your business, you may be hanging up the closed sign for good.

Let Knoxweb help you build an online presence with a powerful website design that will increase your SEO.

A Mobile Friendly Website Can Help Business Grow

mobile friendly website

A mobile friendly website is essential these days, especially if you want to show up at the top of the search engines. However, according to Knoxweb, there are still some businesses and organizations that have not converted their website.

If you follow the Knoxweb Blog, you will know that Google started penalizing businesses, organizations, and individuals who didn’t go mobile. Companies have been bearing the brunt of Googlegeddon since April of 2015 seeing their SEO ranking tumble considerably. If you used to show up at the top, but are now at the bottom of page 10, chances are you aren’t mobile or mobile responsive.

Even before 2015, researchers were seeing a leap from desktop to mobile device shopping. In fact, back in 2013 online shoppers were using mobile devices to purchase products and services. A whopping 55 percent of users who shopped online were doing so from their Smartphone’s. In December of 2014, tablets and Smartphone’s accounted for 60 percent of all time spent on digital media.

Below are three reasons why you need a mobile friendly website.

Your Customers Expect it-These days people are using their mobile devices even if they are at home. Your customers are probably not sitting in front of a laptop or desktop, and if they are, they are probably using their Smartphone at the same time.

If you don’t give your clients and customers what they are shopping for and what they need, they will go elsewhere. People love to browse on their mobile phones, and if you can’t give them what they need, you will lose business. Talk to Knoxweb about designing a mobile responsive website that will work on laptops, desktops, tablets, Smartphone’s and Smartwatches.

Google Will Not Be Happy-As previously mentioned, if you are not mobile friendly, Google will penalize you if you do not have a mobile friendly website. However, some websites are still using images, content and navigation that just doesn’t work on Smartphone’s and tablets. Once again, if users can only see your website the way it should be on a laptop or desktop, they will end up with an unsatisfying experience.

Kiss Your Clients and Customers Goodbye-If you don’t have a mobile friendly website, you are probably already noticing a decline in business. If you aren’t, you are one of the lucky ones. Go mobile with Knoxweb before you do because the clients and customers that are still using laptops and desktops may want to find you on their mobile device, and if they have to pinch and squeeze the screen, you just may lose them for good.

When you give users easy navigation, fast loading pages and a site that is streamlined with great products, services and content, you will be well on your way to increasing your client and customer base.

Keeping Google and your customers satisfied should be your goal, however, that is nearly impossible unless you have a mobile friendly website. A mobile friendly website will help your business grow.

If you want to know more about becoming mobile friendly, call or click and schedule a no obligation consultation with the mobile web design team from Knoxweb. It really could change the way you do business.

Email Marketing Campaign 2017 Are you Doing it Right?

email marketing campaign

If your email marketing campaign looks like it did a decade ago, it’s time to rethink your email marketing strategies. According to Knoxweb, marketing with email is still a viable way to contact your clients and customers, but is also an excellent way to optimize your business blogs and social media posts. When you use email the right way you can even build your business blog subscriber base.

The Cloud

Knoxweb explains that email marketing will be all about the cloud in the next three to five years with data, automation, content, devices, and personalization all part of the mix. Businesses and organizations are starting to use the cloud for email campaigns.

Interactive Emails

You may think email is a dark horse in the communications department, but that couldn’t be further from the truth with companies and organizations using interactive emails to entice customer engagement. If an interactive email appears in your inbox, research says you will be more likely to open it.

Below are a few more reasons to consider a new strategy for your email marketing campaign.

  • These days more people are opening email on their mobile device
  • People open email more on a Smartphone or Tablet
  • Email will work on all operating systems
  • Quick and easy customization
  • Add buttons with simple HTML
  • No Installation needed
  • Your mailing list is your mailing list; you don’t have to pay a dime, just hit send
  • Email now supports basic interaction

Video Email

When you target your email marketing campaign towards video, you can track your success. Knoxweb has seen a boost in click through rate with email campaigns that have been embedded with video. If your business or organization wants to see more sales with email, video email could be a solution. Talk to Knoxweb about video email for your company.

Social Media Marketing

Using a lead magnet in your email marketing campaign will increase your list. Offer freebies such as a report, video, presentation, course, template, tool, coupon or any other product or service from your business. When you use a lead magnet in exchange for an email address, you will see more interaction. Share your tweets and Facebook posts in your email. You will be surprised how many people will head over to check you out on Instagram or YouTube.

Landing Page

If you want to convert your visitors into subscribers via email, talk to Knoxweb about designing a landing page. Also known as a squeeze page it should say something about your business and have something to entice email subscribers. You can also include questions on the page. Keep it simple, as you don’t want to scare anyone off. Fewer questions actually lead to more subscriptions.

Make your lead magnet work for you and pin a great pic to Pinterest. Use it as a profile pic and link it to your landing page. Do the same with Instagram and Snapchat.

Sharing is Caring

Ask people who have downloaded your lead magnet to help you out. Ask Knoxweb to create a squeeze page thanking those who have taken you up on your free offer. You will be amazed at how many people will share your landing page on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and Pinterest. Does Social Media Presence Affect SEO?

social media presence

If your social media presence is virtually non-existent, it’s time to call Knoxweb for a no obligation social media marketing consultation. Knoxweb can help boost your online profile on all of your social media pages, which can also help with your SEO.

According to Knoxweb, Google, Bing, and the other search engines reward businesses and organizations who optimize their content. If you consistently blog, share, create new posts and Tweet frequently, you will be rewarded.

Every Tweet and post on Facebook is considered a web page it its own right. One Facebook page would be links you share, posts you reshare and status updates. Google, whether from a fan, friend, group, or page, considers each of these individual pages.

Knoxweb explains that not every post or tweet that is indexable is indexed. Most people presume that Bing and Google try to index every single page on the World Wide Web, but that is not the case. Although the search engines have a vast number of resources, there are limits. Add to that the number of pages that are growing at exponential rates, the search engines have begun to realize that not every web page is valuable. The algorithms that Google and the other search engines build make the crawlers very selective.

With social media churning out massive amounts of content per day, hundreds more than a traditional web page, you can bet that your social media content is landing on the search engines. However, with people tweeting over 500 million tweets every day, Bing or Google will not index most, and certainly not all of the posts that are generated on a daily basis.

According to Google, the robots aren’t able to crawl every page on Twitter and Facebook; in fact, rumor has it that Google was blocked from Twitter for nearly two months because it was crawling too many pages.

Google algorithm engineers and the powers that be at the largest search engine in the world get nervous when it comes to the possibility of being blocked. However, things have changed since the Twitter firehouse has given Google access. What does that mean? It means that the most powerful and largest search engine in the world can see every single tweet that has been posted in real time. However, your social media presence and your online ranking is much more than posting and tweeting.

If you follow the Knoxweb blog, you will know how important a blog is to your business or organization. Posting regular blogs on your company website helps with your SEO, but when you share those posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media websites, you will have a better chance of ranking higher in the search engines.

Back in 2016, most SEO experts were under the impression that social media didn’t matter to ranking, but since that time, things have certainly changed. Knoxweb explains that being diligent with your social media marketing can help with your Organic Search Engine Optimization.

The most important thing to remember about your social media presence and social media marketing is to keep a healthy presence, as this will help elevate the crawlers.

If you would like more information regarding social media marketing, would like a new mobile website, or just have questions regarding your social media presence, call or click and schedule a no obligation consultation with the internet marketing experts from Knoxweb.

Social media marketing really can make a difference to your SEO and your social media presence, call or click and talk to a marketing expert from Knoxweb today.

Why a Professional Business Blog Writer Knoxweb?

business blog

A professional should write your business blog. Even if you consider yourself a great writer, it is tough to keep up with a business blog when you are trying to run your company.

Writing awesome business blogs for your business is a great way to build your online profile, but if you are only writing when you feel like it, or have abandoned your business blog completely, it is time to call the team from Knoxweb for professional blog writing.

According to Knoxweb, small businesses who consistently write blogs get about 125 percent more leads. A professional business blog writer from Knoxweb can produce fresh, interesting, and dynamic content whether you are a Bed and Breakfast in the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee or a real estate agency in Knoxville.

Below are a few tips when it comes to business blogging

Interesting Title

The title needs to be interesting. The title of your blog should get people motivated to click on a link. Incorporate SEO tactics into your title to help boost your ranking in the search engines.

Original Content

Google and the other search engines value content. Produce unique and fresh content that both the spiders and the users want to read. Never copy and paste and make sure that your content is original.

Be Consistent

A business blog needs to be consistent. Add a new blog once or twice a week, or write a monthly blog. If you are consistent, readers will know when your new blog will be coming out. If your blog rarely gets updated your clients will think they are way down on the task list.

Be Authentic

The last thing you want is for your readers to think you are a robot. Be unique and authentic and you will see your subscriber base grow. Write professional posts and be careful not to write anything too personal. When it comes to a business blog, religion, politics and anything else that may seem offensive should be off limits.
Optimization

Sharing is Caring

If you are consistent with your business blog, it is important to make sure that you share your content. Share your blogs on social media and you may see your business or organization become and influencer in your industry.

Focus

Make sure that you focus on the right things. Never concern yourself with how many fans or followers you have. Building trust and becoming an expert in your field with a great business blog will bring in more business.

Photos

Knoxweb explains that using photos in your blog is imperative as pictures trigger mind mapping. People who tweet with photos are read 350 percent more than tweets with links.

Take your business or organization seriously

Professional blogging should be left to the experts. If you are trying to write your business blog when you get up in the morning or after work at night it will be inconsistent. You hire sales, IT, and marketing people; business blogging shouldn’t be any different.

Call to Action

A call to action will motivate your readers to click on the link, sign up for your newsletter, submit contact forms, and answer questions. Including a strong call to action may help boost your sales and increase your profits.

If you would like more information regarding a business blog, web development, or web design, call or click and schedule a no obligation consultation with the team from Knoxweb.

Celebrate Decoration Day and Memorial Day

decoration day

This Memorial Day while you are enjoying your picnics and BBQ’s take a step back and remember why Memorial Day, or Decoration Day is celebrated in the first place.

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and was started after the Civil War as a way to remember those who had died during service. Below are a few more facts that you may or may not know about Memorial Day.

Although hundreds of communities had been independently celebrating Decoration Day, or Memorial Day, the federal government first declared Waterloo, New York the official birthplace of the holiday. Decoration Day was first celebrated on May 5 in 1866.

Although May 30 was the day of celebration for decades, Congress established the federal holiday as the last Monday in May in 1971.

Known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day honored members of the military who actually died during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865.

About 620,000 Americans died during the Civil war. Those deaths make it the deadliest war on record in the United States. Nearly 644,000 Americans have passed in all of the other conflicts combined.

President Bill Clinton signed the National Moment of Remembrance Act on December 28, 2000. The President designated 3:00 pm local time as a National Moment of Remembrance on Memorial Day.

Red poppies are a symbol of remembrance and is a tradition honoring those who have given their life in war.

Although Memorial Day was originally started as a holiday that honored the Union soldiers, some Southern states still honor the confederates observing other days know as Confederate Decoration Day.

Over 5,000 people attended the first Decoration Day at the Arlington National Cemetery in 1866. That is roughly the same amount of people who attend Memorial services today.

This Memorial Day take a moment to thank the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for your country.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day from Knoxweb!
